D. Bryan Crowson

I’m Bryan, and this is my artwork. I was a newspaper journalist for 27 years, was laid off in 2012, then rebooted myself in 2013 to become an artist as I turned 50.

For 10 years, I've been creating a series of goddess portraits that feature my friends as models. Each portrait is accompanied by an essay, often about the muse who inspired the art with her personality, or my interpretation of the character. The series grew until it became my quest to collect my artwork into a book.

The book was released in March 2024, published by BookBaby. It’s called Goddesses Among Us: The Art of Bryan Crowson, Volume One. I am nearly completion of a deck of oracle cards that will complement the book. And I am already creating the art for Volume Two of my book!

I mainly create colored-pencil paintings on paper. Lately I’ve been experimenting with a combination of art markers and colored pencils. Most of the pieces are 11x14.
